The Apple Vision Pro, an augmented reality headset with a premium design and advanced features, is a dream product for tech enthusiasts and Apple fans alike. However, its steep $3,500 price tag may deter some buyers. To address this, Apple is reportedly working on a low-cost version of the Vision Pro, designed to make the headset accessible to a wider audience. Alongside this, Apple is also expected to release the Apple Vision Pro 2 featuring the upcoming Apple M5 chip. Although this new version will maintain the $3,500 price tag, the affordable variant is anticipated to launch by 2027.
According to reports from reliable sources, such as Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple Vision Pro 2 will come equipped with the M5 chip, an upgrade from its predecessor. This upgrade is expected to bring enhanced performance and capabilities to the Vision Pro series. However, Kuo notes that the Vision Pro 2’s premium price and advanced features may limit its appeal to a niche audience, similar to the initial Vision Pro release.
Despite the advanced features and potential of the Vision Pro 2, it will continue to be marketed as a premium product, which may restrict its appeal to a limited set of users. Kuo draws a comparison between the Vision Pro and Apple’s HomePod line. The original HomePod, a premium smart speaker, faced similar challenges in reaching a broad consumer base. Although Apple introduced a more affordable HomePod Mini to widen its audience, its impact remained relatively modest. This strategy could, however, see better results with a lower-cost Vision Pro model.
For those eager to experience Apple’s Vision Pro technology at a lower price point, patience will be essential. Apple’s more affordable Vision Pro model is anticipated to arrive around 2027 or 2028, as Kuo suggests. While the exact specifications and pricing are yet to be disclosed, this future model aims to offer a similar immersive AR experience but at a more accessible cost. This could enable more users to explore the potential of Apple’s augmented reality ecosystem without the high entry cost of the current Vision Pro lineup.
Although the idea of an affordable Vision Pro model excites many, it is still a long way off, with a potential launch timeline around 2027-2028. This timeline allows Apple to continue refining its technology and expand its use cases for a wider audience. While these plans may evolve, current reports indicate that Apple remains committed to expanding its Vision Pro lineup, ensuring that the advanced technology eventually becomes more accessible.
Apple’s strategy for the Vision Pro series involves catering to both premium users and, eventually, a broader consumer base. With the Apple Vision Pro 2 set to launch next year with an M5 chip and a lower-cost version slated for a much later release, Apple aims to appeal to different segments of the market. For now, customers can look forward to the Vision Pro 2 as the latest addition to Apple’s AR headset lineup, with an eye on the future when an affordable model becomes available.
