The iPhone 17 is finally here, and Apple has packed in some of the biggest upgrades ever seen on a non-Pro iPhone. With a 120Hz ProMotion display, dual 48MP cameras, and the powerful Apple A19 chip, the iPhone 17 takes a massive leap forward in performance and features. Apple also introduced the new iPhone Air, replacing the Plus lineup, but the iPhone 17 itself brings plenty of exciting changes worth exploring.
The iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, making it the first base iPhone model to include Apple’s ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. This means smoother scrolling, responsive gameplay, and fluid animations. For the first time, users also get an Always-On Display that shows time, widgets, and live activities even when the screen is idle.
Apple has upgraded durability with Ceramic Shield 2, offering triple the scratch resistance and improved anti-reflective coating. At an incredible 3,000 nits of brightness, the iPhone 17 delivers the brightest display Apple has ever made, ensuring visibility even under direct sunlight. Outdoor contrast is also twice as good compared to the iPhone 16.
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 runs on the Apple A19 chip, built on a 3nm process. This six-core processor is 1.5x faster than the A15 Bionic, while its five-core GPU doubles graphics performance. Apple seems to be targeting iPhone 13 owners who may now feel the urge to upgrade to the latest device.
For the first time, a non-Pro iPhone comes with dual 48MP rear cameras. The setup includes a 48MP wide camera and a 48MP ultra-wide lens with macro support. The main lens also supports 2x lossless optical zoom, providing crisp shots without quality loss. New photo styles in iOS 26, including the “Bright Style,” bring improved skin tones and more vivid colors to your images.
The iPhone 17 leverages Apple’s improved Neural Engine and Apple Intelligence for smarter AI-powered features. Along with a new display engine and ISP, users get up to 30 hours of video playback on a single charge. Fast charging delivers 50% power in just 20 minutes, and Apple’s new 40W USB-C Dynamic Power Adapter offers high-speed charging for those who need extra performance.
Another highlight is the addition of the Apple N1 chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. This upgrade ensures stronger connectivity for AirDrop, Personal Hotspot, and other wireless features. In some regions, including the US, Canada, Japan, and the UAE, the iPhone 17 will only be available with eSIM support.
The iPhone 17 starts with a generous 256GB of internal storage, doubling the entry-level storage of previous models. Available colors include Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, White, and Black. Pre-orders open on September 12 in 63 countries, with shipments beginning on September 19. An additional 22 countries will see availability starting September 26.
The Apple iPhone 17 marks a turning point for non-Pro models, finally matching premium iPhones with a 120Hz display, Always-On feature, dual 48MP cameras, and larger storage. Whether you’re upgrading from an older iPhone or switching to Apple for the first time, the iPhone 17 offers one of the best value-packed upgrades yet.
