Dimensity 9000 is officially in the world
MediaTek surprised us all quite a bit today. It introduced its flagship Dimensity 9000 processor based on 4nm production technology. If the trade name of the chipset confuses you a bit, it is Dimensity 2000, which the manufacturer renamed at the last minute. A further surprise is his introduction today, because everyone assumed that MediaTek his flag might turn up at the beginning of next year.
With its unexpected performance, the Dimensity 9000 processor won several firsts. It is the first TSMC chipset to be built on a 4nm manufacturing process and is also the world's first processor with this technology. It thus becomes a significant competitor of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset and also the Exynos 2200 chipset. Other firsts of the new processor can be found in the parameters. Dimensity 9000 is also the first to use the latest ARM Cortex-X2, A710 and A510 cores based on the ARMv9 architecture. The Mali-G710 GPU is also a complete novelty with LPDDR5X RAM support and support for up to 7500 Mbps. In addition, it is the first processor to support Bluetooth 5.3.
So what exactly does the architecture of the new MediaTek processor look like? There are three clusters inside. The first has one powerful Cortex-X2 core with a clock speed of 3.05 GHz. In the second cluster there are three Cortex-A710 cores with a clock speed of 2.85 GHz and in the third we find four Cortex-A510 cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. The Mali-G710 GPU has ten cores. A fifth-generation MediaTek APU with six cores for AI processing is also available. The manufacturer claims that it offers up to four times higher performance and better energy efficiency than previous generations.
The processor also supports displays with up to 180 Hz refresh rate at FullHD + resolution. An 18-bit ISP processor is ready for cameras, which supports up to 320 MPix sensors. It also supports the parallel operation of three 32 MPix sensors and can process a total of 270 frames per second for 4K HDR video. The 5G modem complies with the 3GPP Release-16 standard. Although we will not find mmWave support here, there is also support for sub-6GHz 5G with a theoretical maximum download speed of 7 Gbps with 3CC Carrier Aggregation (300 MHz). It is also the only 5G modem for smartphones that supports R16 UL Tx switching for both SUL and NR UL-CA-based connections. The modem also delivers improved power consumption for both 5G active and standby connections. Finally, the first phones with the Dimensity 9000 will be on the market in the first quarter of next year.
