Mediatek plans chips for Windows PCs in the future
The end of the year is always reserved for the representatives of the chipset manufacturers, and this year, of course, it will not be different. Events for Snapdragon 898 and Exynos 2200 are still waiting for us, but the Taiwanese Mediatek has already revealed the news today. Of course, their representative was dominated by the Dimensity 9000 chipset (or originally Dimensity 2000), because it will be the first high-end chip from their stable. But there were other very interesting news. The new Wi-Fi 7 standard is definitely worth a look, and we will see it for the first time in January next year. But Mediatek also reportedly plans to enter the field of chipsets for Windows PCs.
Apple opened the door to massive success with ARM chips in the computer world last year with the Apple M1. And the competition, of course, registered the move. Apparently, Mediatek should plan the production of its own chipsets with ARM architecture, but of course for the Windows platform. Apple has the advantage of a comprehensive integration of hardware and software, which is not the case with Microsoft. In terms of hardware, they have to rely on partners, and Mediatek should become one of them in the future. And it's not just the processors themselves, but the company should also take care of 5G modems.
However, it is necessary to mention that these are primarily forward-looking plans for the future, which will last for a few more years. So be sure not to wait for Mediatek processors at the moment. Closer will be computer processors from Qualcomm, which also intends to enter this field unploughed. Their solution should reach the market in 2023 and interesting names are working on it. It is being developed by Nuvia, a company acquired by Qualcomm, founded by former Apple employees. The competition is never enough…
