Oppo is already working on its own chip, maybe even for OnePlus

More and more big brands of phone manufacturers are embarking on the development and production of their own chips for their phones. Some of them from humble beginnings reach the top (Huawei with Kirin chips), others completely climb (Xiaomi with Surge chips). Alternatively, the company adapts the existing chipset for its own needs, for example, Google with a Tensor chip. The first reports about Oppo's efforts to develop its own chip were published in October this year, but today we also received an official statement from the company. This is quite stingy, but fortunately the well-known Chinese "leakster" Digital Chat Station will add it .

Oppo representatives basically just confirmed that they are working on the first chip of their own production. But apparently it will probably not be a complete chipset with everything, but only an NPU chip. As is well known, he takes care of artificial intelligence and should also take care of photo processing. Of course, it is possible that in the end it will be the whole platform, including the NPU unit, but this has not yet been confirmed. In addition, the chip should be manufactured by 6 nm lithography from TSMC, which corresponds to the current production of the middle class. High-end chips have already broken the 4 nm lithography barrier.

Oppo can easily plan its own chips only for middle-class phones and over time work on more ambitious projects. In addition, they plan to deploy their own chips not only for phones under the Oppo brand, but also for the recently integrated OnePlus brand . We should learn more during the Oppo Inno Day 2021 conference, which will take place in a few days on December 14th. The company definitely has the capabilities and resources to develop its own comprehensive technologies, but Xiaomi also had it…. So I would be a little more careful with some predictions.
