Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset was originally expected to become the clear king of the high-end for this year on the Android platform. But the reality is somewhat different, because this silicon miracle faces a whole range of problems. Whether we're talking about overheating, below-average yields in Samsung 's production , and in the end, perhaps not entirely convincing performance. Of course, this is still an extremely powerful chipset, but probably a little more was expected. Another field in the face is the newly published first benchmarks of the upcoming Mediatek Dimensity 8100.
Today, the legendary Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station sent to the world a comparison of Dimensity 8100, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 in the Geekbench 5 benchmark. The single-core results are, of course, behind the second from Qualcomm, mainly thanks to the super-powerful Cortex-X1 core. But this is only a small consolation, because the Dimensity 8100 is not designed as a competition for a high-end company. This chipset is located in the upper middle class. So Qualcomm certainly won't frame similar numbers.
Of course, these are still only benchmarks, in addition to the test piece. The phone under the name RMX3562 is most likely a Realme GT Neo3. There is also a graphics performance in the stars, where the last Snapdragon still won the more powerful Dimensity 9000. Although the difference was probably far from what many expected. In any case, the Dimensity 8000 family is based on older 5 nm lithographs, and no one expected similarly impressive results. We will also be very curious how the transition of production from Samsung to TSMC is waving with the numbers of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Because there we could still see a decent change for the better in all directions.
