Nothing Phone (1) is finally here
The Nothing Phone (1) has kept punters guessing its specs quite a bit for the past few months. However, even Carl Pei and his team at the Nothing startup informed us quite often about what the upcoming phone entails. At the beginning of last month , they confirmed that they will officially introduce the phone on July 12/July in London, and so it happened. So can we expect Nothing's first phone to be as successful as OnePlus' first model? If it is a new killer of flagships, the first sales will show. But now we will summarize everything we know about the phone.
We have known for a long time that the Nothing Phone (1) has a unique and unmistakable design. The back panel has a transparent cover, under which you can see some of the components and also the LED light system. The manufacturer gave these LED strips the name "Glyph Interface" and they are used to indicate charging, including wireless and reverse charging. The lights can also be paired with ringtones or used for other notifications. There are relatively narrow and symmetrical frames around the display. In the upper left corner of the screen is a "hole" for the front camera. And maybe we should also add that the phone frame is made of recyclable aluminum.
The display of the Nothing Phone (1) is a 6.55-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 240 Hz sampling rate. The screen supports HDR10+ and a brightness of up to 1200 nits. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. A fingerprint sensor is also integrated into the screen.
Just as Carl Pei recently confirmed , the phone received a Snapdragon 778G+ processor. So it's clear that the Nothing Phone (1) is not a flagship. However, Pei says he didn't want to launch a new phone from a brand new brand with a high price and low profit margin. That's why he chose this particular processor. He added 8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of internal storage. The battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh and supports fast wired charging with a power of 33 W. There is also 15 W wireless charging and 5 W reverse wireless charging. Connectivity is represented by 5G SA/NSA, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6E 802.11ax (2.4GHz/5GHz) MIMO, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, USB-C and NFC. The manufacturer also added resistance according to IP53 certification and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.
The operating system is Android 12 with Nothing OS superstructure (1). The superstructure is said to be very close to pure Android and does not contain any bloatware. Thanks to this superstructure, the phone can be conveniently paired with Nothing headphones (1) and third-party devices. For example, with Tesla cars. The manufacturer has promised 3 years of Android system updates and 4 years of security patch updates.
As far as photo equipment is concerned, the Nothing brand hasn't expanded much in terms of the number of sensors. The main camera is "only" dual. The Sony IMX766 primary sensor has a resolution of 50 MP, an aperture of f/1.8 and support for OIS and EIS. It was supplemented by a 50 MP Samsung JN1 wide-angle sensor with a 114° field of view, which can also be used for macro photography from a distance of up to 4 cm. The front camera received a 16 MP Sony IMX471 sensor with f/2.25 aperture.
The Nothing Phone (1) debuted globally, so it's hitting quite a few markets around the world. However, according to the information on the brand's official website , they unfortunately do not include the Czech or Slovak market. The closest we can get it is in Poland, Germany or Hungary. First sales will begin at London's Covent Garden brick-and-mortar store on July 16/July. The phone will arrive at partner stores on July 18, and online sales on the manufacturer's website begin on July 21. Thanks to this sales system, we only know UK prices so far and they are set as follows:
