The presentation of the OnePlus 10T 5G finally went off without a hitch

This morning we received an unpleasant surprise from OnePlus in the form of the cancellation of the Ace Pro model , and fans began to fear the worst. In the afternoon, the OnePlus 10T 5G was to be introduced to the world (as the global Ace Pro version). Fortunately, the fears were not confirmed and the new flagship OnePlus saw the light of day exactly as planned. This is a classic "dot" model of the past, which has no ambitions to compete with the top model, in this case the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G. Even so, it will offer some very pleasant surprises, but also, unfortunately, some unpleasant findings.

For some time now, OnePlus fans have been suffering from a certain "oppofication" of the phones, which is probably inevitable after the merger of the companies. On the other hand, they probably expected a better preservation of the brand's identity, including some iconic amenities. These include, for example, the Alert Slider, without which I personally cannot imagine a mobile phone. Well, today we unfortunately saw the very first flagship phone in history that doesn't have one... Company representatives do argue the need for internal space in the phone, but to us fans, unfortunately, it sounds like empty excuses. A definite minus right from the start.

AND THE SEARCH FOR FLIES IS NOT OVER YET…

And while we're talking about those flaws, let's get rid of those other beauty spots just to be sure. There are basically only two, but neither of them pleases. The OnePlus 10T 5G only has a plastic frame, which is simply inappropriate for a high-end phone. Of course, these are high-quality plastics, but metal is metal. Another major and incomprehensible concession is the return to the slow USB 2.0 Type-C port, as the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G has a modern USB 3.1 Gen1. This can be forgiven for the midrange Nord 2T 5G, but probably not for a high-end model with a high-end price.

On the other hand, in some respects the OnePlus 10T 5G surpasses even its Pro sibling. It has received the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for excellent performance. It will complement 8 GB / 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB UFS 3.1 internal memory. Also new is the 3D cooling system, which promises to further reduce temperatures. The 4800 mAh battery also supports super-fast 150W SuperVOOC charging, but it misses out on wireless charging. The display is also "just" standard OLED with FullHD+ resolution, 120 Hz, 10-bit colors and HDR10+, so it's a step back from LTPO 2.0 and 2K displays.

EVEN THE CAMERAS WENT THROUGH A SERIOUS DIET

Even the cameras have not avoided cuts in equipment and they are not exactly small. The main sensor is a 50 MP Sony IMX766 with a sensor size of 1/1.56″, 1.0 µm pixels, f/1.8 aperture and OIS. They are followed by an ultra-wide 8 MP sf/2.2 with a 120° field of view, or a 2 MP macro. So no telephoto and equipment basically at the middle class level. The Hasselblad stamp is also missing, so the color calibration is completely under the thumb of OnePlus (or OPPO). The selfie camera also dropped from 32 MP to 16 MP resolution.

If you thought that with similar compromises and cuts, OnePlus would also offer us a significantly lower price, you would be wrong. The OnePlus 10T 5G is cheaper than the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, but the difference is not drastic. The 8GB+128G version will be available here for 749 euros and the 16GB+256GB version for 849 euros. Compared to 919 euros for the significantly better OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, there is no price... The phone is offered in black "roughened" Moonstone Black and green Jade Green. Personally, I see this news as a step in the wrong direction, although of course it is not a bad phone. Just the comparison…
