Samsung introduced the 200 MP Isocell HPX sensor
Samsung is a champion in the release of photo sensors. Prim holds its own with sensors with a resolution of 200 MPix. The Isocell HP1 sensor saw the light of day last year , but it waited almost a year for its premiere in the phone. It finally got it as the first flagship model Moto X30 Pro . However, before the launch of this machine, another 200 MPix sensor called Isocell HP3 appeared on the market. Well, now there's a brand new, third 200 MP sensor in the series, the Isocell HPX.
The Samsung Isocell HPX sensor has a pixel size of 0.56 μm, which reduces the area of the camera module by up to 20%. At the same time, it will make the body of the phone thinner. In addition, the manufacturer used Advanced DTI (Deep Trench Isolation) technology here, which separates individual pixels and increases the sensitivity of the sensor, so the resulting images are sharper and more vivid. The Isocell HPX sensor also received fast and accurate focusing with Super QPD autofocus.
Another new technology that Samsung used in the Isocell HPX sensor is the Tetra Pixel, i.e. 16 pixels in one, which will greatly help when shooting in the dark or in poor lighting. With the help of this technology, the sensor is able to automatically switch between three different lighting modes depending on the amount of ambient light. In practice, this means that in a well-lit environment, the pixel size is kept at 0.56 μm and the resolution at 200 million pixels. In low-light environments, the sensor switches to a pixel size of 1.12 μm and a resolution of 50 million pixels. In very poor ambient light, 16 pixels are set to give a size of 2.24 μm and a resolution of 12.5 million pixels.
The Samsung Isocell HPX sensor is capable of recording video in 8K resolution at 30 frames per second, it also supports smooth dual HDR shooting in 4K and FullHD modes. Furthermore, the sensor captures shadows and highlights in three different exposures, low, medium and high. It then combines all three exposures and creates HDR images and videos in the highest quality. Samsung also adds that the sensor supports 14-bit color depth, which is significantly more than previous sensors with 12-bit color depth. So it seems that even this new sensor will support the trend of using 200 MPix sensors in flagship phones next year.
