Snapdragon 8 Gen2 in Galaxy S23 phones is overclocked
That Samsung will release its Galaxy S23 series flagship phones next year is as certain as the sun rising in the morning. However, until recently it was not certain whether they would go to all markets only with the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor. We know that in China and America, these premium machines were sold with a chipset from Qualcomm's workshops. In the European market, however, we had to settle for the Exynos processor. And rightly so, many European users did not like it.
Even this year, tipsters speculated that Samsung will send Galaxy S23 models with a Qualcomm chipset to all markets. But then they called it off, and finally Qualcomm representatives themselves admitted that Snapdragon is really the only processor that Samsung will use in these machines. Some of the Galaxy S23 series phones have already passed the Geekbench tests, which actually only detected the Snapdragon 8 Gen2. But if we take a closer look at the frequency at which the individual cores of the chipset run, we will find slight deviations from the usual type of this processor.
So it seems that Samsung is using some special overclocked edition of the Gen2 chipset in the Galaxy S23 phones. After all, the well - known tipster Ice Universe also mentions it on Twitter . It also states how the cores are overclocked. The main core is overclocked from 3.2 GHz to 3.36 GHz, the performance cores are clocked at 2.80 GHz and the efficient cores are clocked at 2.02 GHz. And to make matters worse, the GPU is also overclocked, from 680 MHz to 719 MHz.
But the tipster did not confirm whether the overclocked processor is intended for all global markets or only for China and America. It only states that this is an exclusive high-frequency version of the processor. However, it is not unusual for Qualcomm to occasionally release an "AC" version of its flagship processor. For example, we saw this with the Snapdragon 855. The newly introduced Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is codenamed SM8550-AB, so this overclocked version may be called SM8550-AC. According to Qualcomm's official statement, Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is 35% faster than last year's Gen1. This means that the overclocked version can be even a few percent faster.
