In this article too, we will look at Samsung's upcoming foldable phones. They are preparing two models for us this year, namely the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the classic folding model Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. We already know about the first of them that it will receive several improvements, including a larger external display. For the second model, it seems, it will be a bit the other way around. The phone will certainly get interesting parameters and functions, but it is still missing one.
When Samsung discontinued the Galaxy Note product line that supported the stylus, it brought that support to the Galaxy Z Fold phones. The first model with stylus support was the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021, followed by last year's Galaxy Z Fold 4 . Although the stylus was not built-in and had to be purchased additionally, the use of the S Pen still suited many users. Others, on the other hand, called for the manufacturer to work on the built-in pen. However, there are certain limits to the folding phone that have yet to be crossed, and among them is the built-in slot for the stylus.
It is not a problem to add a slot for a stylus, but the phone is quite thick. And users don't like that either, because they want the foldable phone to be as thin as possible. In addition, trying to make a foldable phone have a built-in pen slot while not gaining in thickness significantly increased production costs. This of course means a higher price of the final product. So it looks like a vicious circle. The way out is to cancel the stylus support completely. And the manufacturer decided on this path. So the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not support the S Pen.
We can find this information on the South Korean website EtNews, along with a small, promising-looking postscript. Samsung is said to be still working on a solution to slim down the stylus, reduce the size of the built-in slot and thus preserve the slim design of the foldable phone. The demand for pens built into folding phones is growing. If the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be without a stylus, it is possible that we will see it again in the next generation of this folding model.
