In July, Xiaomi became the world's second-largest smartphone maker by market share. The Chinese manufacturer has overtaken Apple in a report released by Canalyst Research. Now, IDC, another analyst, has also released its report confirming Xiaomi's ranking, albeit by different numbers.
ID's report lists the top five smartphone companies in the world for the second quarter of 2021 and ranks them in terms of shipping volume, market share and year-on-year growth.
At the top of the list is Samsung, with a shipping volume of 59 million, which is 4 million more than the number shipped in that quarter of 2020. However, it shipped more units and its market share fell from 19.5% to 18.8%.
Xiaomi is in second place with 53.1 million ships and a market share of 16.9%. It's a huge jump from 28.5 million units shipped by Y-O-Y and 10.3% of its market share. IDC says the company reported 86.6% growth.
Apple is the third largest smartphone maker with a market share of 44.2 million and 14.1%. The Cupertino-based company increased its shipping and market share Y-O-Y from 37.6 million to 13.6%, respectively.
OPPO and its subsidiary company Vivo shipped 32.8 million and 31.6 million units, ranking fourth and fifth respectively. The first had a market share of 10.5% and recorded a growth of 33.7%. Vivo has a market share of 10.1%, up 33.7%.
IDC adds that the above statistics represent the current parent company for all brands owned and operated as a subsidiary, so Xiaomi's statistics include shipments made by Redmi and Poco.
