You can move your WhatsApp history from iOS to Samsung

When you switch from iOS to Android, WhatsApp adds the ability to bring your chat history with you, including your chat notes, photos and conversations. The long-rumored feature was unveiled at Samsung's launch today, originally covering the transition from iOS to the company's new Z-Fold 3 and Z-Flip 3 and other Samsung phones "in the next few weeks". Lastly, this feature covers all transfers between iOS and Android phones but it is not clear when it will be available for all devices.

The new feature should help address the most frustrating aspect of WhatsApp so that your chat history can never be officially transferred between mobile phone systems. If you choose to use WhatsApp's cloud backup feature, iOS chat history is stored in iCloud and Android is in Google Drive, which means you can switch your chats between phones running the same operating system.

The new feature shifts chat history via USB-C cable by physical lightning rather than sending it over the Internet. Unfortunately, if you 've switched between iOS and Android in the past and had two separate cloud backups, the new sharing feature will not integrate them into a chat history at once. Instead, WhatsApp tells me that if you migrate your chat history and back it up it will overwrite any existing backup.

WhatsApp says the new feature will allow it to initially switch from iOS to Samsung's new foldable, and in the next few weeks to Samsung devices running Android 10 and above. It declined to say when the feature will be available for non-Samsung Android phones or when it will be allowed to switch from Android to iOS.
