MediaTek Dimensity 9300: The first chipset with LPDDR5T RAM support
Earlier this year, South Korean memory chip maker Sk Hynix announced that it will launch its high-end DRAM memory. The manufacturer claims that this DRAM memory is the fastest on the market. And while many expected the technology to debut with a Snapdragon SoC, MediaTek 's Mediatek Dimensity 9300 will be the first mobile chipset to get this support.
For some, this news may not come as a surprise. After all, the South Korean OEM used the MediaTek chipset to test DRAM modules. However, Sk Hynix did not explicitly mention a specific chipset model during the announcement. However, the manufacturer said that this is the "next-generation Dimensity flagship chipset". And MediaTek's only upcoming flagship SoC is the Dimensity 9300.
WHAT LPDDR5T SUPPORT MEANS FOR MEDIATEK DIMENSITY 9300
With support for LPDDR5T, Dimensity 9300 will provide unrivaled memory bandwidth. According to Sk Hynix, it's 9.6 Gb/s, while currently Samsung's LPDDR5X can offer a data processing speed of 8.5 Gb/s. So it goes without saying that LPDDR5T RAM will be faster than LPDDR5X RAM.
However, the point is that not all phones with the Dimensity 9300 SoC will use LPDDR5T RAM. After all, the chipset is backward compatible with the older generation of memory standards. And although LPDDR5T brings many improvements, it is cheaper to get LPDDR5X instead.
Since the Dimensity 9300 will be the first chipset to support LPDDR5T, you might wonder if it will have an advantage over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. There isn't much official information about the chipsets at this stage.
Yes, we have Geekbench benchmark results available for the Dimensity 9300 and 8 Gen 3. However, the Geekbench results do not explicitly state whether the 9300 was tested with LPDDR5T RAM. However, MediaTek plans to launch the chipset earlier than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. So we don't have to wait long to get a better understanding of the chipset's performance.
