Last week, Google introduced the Pixel 8 series in style. Powered by the new Tensor G3 chipset, the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 models bring many improvements. With the new devices, Google introduced the Actua display, which just won the title of the best display in a new ranking.
More specifically, the Google Pixel 8 Pro with Super Actua display now takes the top spot in DXOMARK's display rankings. The regular Pixel 8 with an Actua display achieves a similar score in the ranking. This means you'll be guaranteed a better viewing experience no matter which device you choose from the range.
Similar to the other devices tested by DXOMARK, the Pixel 8 output focused on six different criteria . And if you would like to get a better idea of the DXOMARK rating, you need to look at the details.
Among the criteria is, for example, readability. This test determines how easy and comfortable the content on the screen is to read in various real-world conditions. The output then tests the ability to produce colors. Thus, it determines the ability of smartphones to accurately reproduce colors.
Furthermore, the test includes video testing. This test evaluates how smartphones handle standard dynamic range (SDR) and high dynamic range (HDR10) video. Next, there is a movement test. It determines how well phones can handle dynamic content. The phones also undergo a touch test where DXOMARK measures accuracy, smoothness and response time.
Finally, smartphones must pass an artifact test. Here, the output checks for display performance, motion defects, and image rendering capabilities. It also measures reflectivity and the presence of flicker. And the Google Pixel 8 phones passed all these criteria with flying colors.
Out of all the criteria, the Google Pixel 8 phones scored highly in each of them. Devices in the artifact category have the lowest score, with 122 points. The best-rated phone in the artifact category is the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, which scored 161.
However, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 can't beat the Pixel 8 in terms of color and readability. More specifically, Google's new phones scored 162 and 164 in each of these criteria.
Although both Google Pixel 8 devices received impressive scores, the focus is on the Pixel 8 Pro. DXOMARK points out that the Pro model boasts a remarkable 2100 nits of brightness at an average picture level of 20%. In various conditions, including direct sunlight, it outperformed even the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Additionally, DXOMARK reports that the Pixel 8 Pro handles brightness better in low light. It even excels in offering accurate and vivid color rendering, which greatly enhances the viewing experience.
For those interested, the Google Pixel 8 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 are currently in the top two spots in DXOMARK's display category rankings. Google's latest phones scored an overall score of 154, while the Z Fold 5 scored an overall score of 152 .
In terms of ranking, the Google Pixel 8 devices hold the 1st and 2nd positions, while the Z Fold 5 holds the 3rd position. These devices are followed by the Google Pixel Fold and the Honor Magic5 Pro . The two devices received a total score of 151 points, placing them 4th and 5th in the ranking.
The recently released iPhone 15 Pro Max holds the 6th position with a total score of 149 points. It shares the same overall score with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro and Galaxy Z Filp5.
